How to Choose Your Router?

In this article, I’ve chosen to show you the different ways to choose a router, along with some references that will help you make the right choice. A router is important for your local speed, as it ensures the longevity of the user through its smoothness.

To understand what a router is, start by checking out here. Anyway, there are several steps to know.

1) A Wi-Fi or wired router?

Wi-Fi is there to make your life easier (or not); it lets you have your computer anywhere in your home without having to use a cable. However, there are drawbacks: Wi-Fi can easily be hacked if it isn’t protected, and even when it is. Moreover, Wi-Fi is not good for the brain and can cause interference with certain devices (intercoms, walkie-talkies, …).

On the other hand, a wired router offers the advantage of providing a connection with a higher speed than Wi-Fi.

2) Security

Security is something you should not neglect at all. The security of your router is essential. If your router isn’t configured with a protection key when you buy it, set one up. It’s really important for protecting your personal information, such as your bank details, your emails, etc. Several types of encryption exist (although this can remain complex), such as WEP, WPA, and WPA2. For your information, WPA2 is an encryption that is difficult to hack.

3) Design

Design is not the most essential thing. If you’re thinking of buying a router solely for its design, this article won’t be very useful to you. The design of a device is important, but when it comes to speed and performance, it matters little.

Now, you may be more aware of what you should look for when buying your next router. If you’re not sure yet, you can simply opt for the router provided with your subscription (Free, Numericable, Orange, SFR, Bouygues).
