Brian Acton, one of the co-founders of the messaging app WhatsApp, which now belongs to Facebook, continues to speak very negatively about the social network. I remember that Acton left the company in 2017, shortly before the messenger began to be monetized.
Last week, Acton spoke to students at Stanford University. During a lecture, he discussed his decision to sell the company to Facebook and also invited those gathered to delete their accounts on the social network. The fact is that Acton is convinced: for Facebook, monetizing products is a priority, not the privacy of users. It’s worth noting that the WhatsApp co-founder had already expressed this view last year, after the scandal surrounding Facebook and Cambridge Analytica.
During a speech at Stanford University, Acton noted that large technology companies (such as Apple and Google) and social media simply do not face up to content moderation, and that users are only increasing their influence:
“These companies do not have the means to make such decisions. And we give them power. And that’s the worst. We buy their products. We sign up on such sites. Delete Facebook, okay?”
