I had the chance to ride aboard Sony’s new Vision-S concept car at CES 2020 in Las Vegas.
Sony developed the Vision-S with several partners, including Magna, Bosch and Continental. Powered by a 400 kW motor, roughly 545 horsepower, it can go from 0 to 100 km/h in under 5 seconds and reach a top speed of 240 km/h. Sony does not disclose the battery power or its range. On the audio front, the company equips its car with a 360 Reality Audio system and a large screen for watching movies or listening to music that stretches across the entire dashboard. The question on everyone’s mind is whether Sony will decide to make the car available to the general public. For now, Sony has not answered, stressing that the electric car is for the time being only a showcase of what Sony is capable of in the automotive field. According to rumors, Sony may be present at upcoming auto shows such as the Geneva show next March.
