A few minutes ago, Numericable announced it had acquired the cable operator SFR! The much-anticipated news has been eventful over the past few weeks due to rumors of a takeover by Bouygues Telecom. Vivendi nevertheless sold the SFR subsidiary for the sum of 17 billion euros, an increase of 850 million euros. Vivendi says it will keep a 32% stake in the capital of the future combined entity of Numericable and SFR.
This is therefore very good news for the mobile network sector, because if Bouygues had acquired SFR, it would have created unemployment in France since stores would have closed, and moreover the infrastructure would have been duplicated.
Furthermore, only three operators would have been present, which could have led to a rise in prices in the mobile plan market.
