Apple launches a brand-new MacBook Pro featuring an immersive 16-inch Retina display, performance up to 80% faster, and a new Magic Keyboard.
Apple today unveiled the all-new 16-inch MacBook Pro – the best professional laptop in the world – designed for developers, photographers, filmmakers, scientists, music producers, and everyone who relies on a Mac to create the best work of their lives. The all-new MacBook Pro features a 16-inch bright Retina display, the latest 8-core processors, up to 64GB of memory, next-generation graphics with up to 8GB of VRAM, and an advanced new thermal design, making it the most powerful MacBook Pro ever.
New Magic Keyboard
The 16-inch MacBook Pro features a new Magic Keyboard with a sophisticated scissor mechanism offering 1 mm of key travel and a stable key feel, along with a rubber dome designed by Apple that stores more potential energy for responsive key presses. The 16-inch MacBook Pro incorporates extensive research and user studies focused on human factors and key design. It offers a keyboard that provides a comfortable, satisfying, and quiet typing experience. The new Magic Keyboard also includes a physical Escape key and an inverted “T” arrangement for the arrow keys, along with the Touch Bar and Touch ID, for a keyboard that delivers the best possible typing experience on a Mac laptop.
More Advanced Thermal Design
The 16-inch MacBook Pro uses the most advanced thermal architecture of any Mac laptop to allow the system to run at higher power for extended periods. The sophisticated fan design includes a larger impeller with extended blades and larger vents, resulting in a 28% increase in airflow, while the heatsink is 35% larger, enabling far greater heat dissipation than before. Together, these cooling advances allow the 16-inch MacBook Pro to sustain up to 12 more watts than the previous design during intensive workloads.
Powerful Processors and Faster Memory
Whether compiling code, editing multi-camera videos, or creating 3D animation, MacBook Pro customers need professional-level computing power they can take anywhere. To deliver incredibly fast performance, the 16-inch MacBook Pro features the latest 9th-generation 6-core and 8-core processors with Turbo Boost speeds of up to 5.0 GHz, delivering performance up to 2.1 times faster than the 15-inch quad-core MacBook Pro.1 Its powerful processors, combined with faster memory of up to 64GB for the first time, and its more advanced thermal design, enable professional workflows never before possible on a MacBook Pro.
Compared to the fastest 15-inch Quad-Core MacBook Pro:
Music producers can mix huge multitrack projects with up to 2.1 times more Amp Designer plug-ins in Logic Pro X.
Scientists and researchers will benefit from 2.1 times faster simulation of dynamic systems in MATLAB.
Developers using Xcode can compile code up to 1.8 times faster.
Photographers can apply complex edits to photos 1.7 times faster in Photoshop.
Next-Generation Graphics
Graphics performance is essential for professionals, whether they’re creating the next major game title, transforming a complex 3D scene, or color grading a blockbuster film. The 16-inch MacBook Pro features the new AMD Radeon Pro 5000M series graphics cards, the first 7nm mobile discrete GPUs designed for professional users. Paired with GDDR6 video memory and an 8GB VRAM option for the first time, professional users will be able to complete GPU-intensive tasks faster than ever. Customers who choose the standard configuration will get graphics performance 2.1 times faster than the previous standard configuration. Those who opt for the most sophisticated graphics options will see performance up to 80% higher than the previous high-end configuration.1
Compared to the previous-generation 15-inch MacBook Pro with 8-core processor and the most advanced graphics options:
Video editors using DaVinci Resolve will see effects render up to 1.8 times faster when color grading.
Gamers will enjoy smoother gameplay with up to 1.6 times faster performance in games like Fortnite.
In Unity, developers will benefit from 1.4 times higher viewport performance when building games.
To power all of this performance, the MacBook Pro features a 100Wh battery – the largest of any Mac laptop – providing up to 11 additional hours of wireless web browsing or Apple TV app video playback.
First 8TB Notebook
The new MacBook Pro doubles SSD storage to 512GB and 1TB for professionals with massive asset libraries and large projects requiring even more storage in a laptop. And for the first time, the MacBook Pro can be configured with an impressive 8TB of storage capacity – the largest SSD of any laptop.
High-Fidelity Audio Experience
The 16-inch MacBook Pro features a completely redesigned six-speaker high-fidelity sound system, engineered to give musicians, podcasters, and video editors the most advanced audio experience ever found in a laptop. The new force-cancelling woofers, patented by Apple, use two opposing speakers to reduce unwanted vibrations that distort sound. As a result, music sounds clearer and more natural than ever, and bass can reach half an octave lower. An upgraded array of high-performance microphones reduces background noise by 40% and delivers an improved signal-to-noise ratio, comparable to that of professional-grade digital microphones.
