Restart your iPhone X or iPhone 8:
1. Press and quickly release the Volume (+) button.
2. Then press and quickly release the Volume (-) button.
3. Next, press and hold the side button (Sleep/Wake).
Put your iPhone X or iPhone 8 into DFU mode:
1. Connect your iPhone X or iPhone 8 to your Mac or PC.
2. Make sure iTunes is running.
3. Turn off your iPhone X or iPhone 8 (if it isn’t already off).
4. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the right side of your iPhone for 3 seconds.
5. Then press and hold the Volume (-) button on the left side of your iPhone while still holding the Sleep/Wake button.
6. Next, hold both buttons for 10 seconds. (If you see the Apple logo, you held them too long and will need to start over.)
7. Release the Sleep/Wake button while still holding the volume button for about 5 seconds. (If you see the “Connect to iTunes” screen, you held it too long and will need to start over.)
8. If the screen stays black, you’re all set! Your iPhone 7 should now be in DFU mode.
iTunes should display an alert indicating it has detected your iPhone 8 or iPhone X and is ready for restoration.
