Due to a bug, Skype for Android may answer incoming calls

Users of Skype for Android are experiencing a strange bug, the first complaints of which appeared in January 2019. The problem is linked to the automatic call answering feature, which was introduced in Skype as a function for people with disabilities, as well as for other situations, for example, when a pet owner calls home while away to check what their pet is doing.

In reality, even disabling this feature does not guarantee that Skype will stop automatically “picking up” after a few beeps. Users complain that the app answers calls after a few seconds, even when the smartphone is in their pocket or bag at that moment.

Most often, users noticed Skype’s strange behavior because their smartphone was working in tandem with smartwatches. Some people write that the bug disappears if you turn off “smart” watches or Bluetooth; however, not all victims have wearable gadgets, so the root of the problem probably does not lie here.

The latest update of Skype for Android was released in March 2019, but after its release, users continued to receive complaints, meaning they had not yet resolved the problem. However, Android Police reports that Microsoft engineers are already aware of the bug and are working to fix it. The good news is that, in the current preview version of the app, the problem has already been resolved.

It should be noted that the problem in Skype for Android is in many ways similar to the bug in Apple FaceTime , discovered earlier this year. This error also allowed the caller to access another person’s microphone and camera, even if the victim did not answer the call.
