Today, new technologies are everywhere. In the video game world, game developers focus on creating captivating games that can be played on any type of device, from the PS4 to the smartphone, as well as on the combination of laws and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms. But how exactly does this algorithm work? What is its journey within gaming, and ultimately in our everyday lives?
Artificial intelligence, or AI, combines large amounts of data with the rapid processing of intelligent algorithms to allow software to automatically learn from patterns or features in data.
The gaming sector

The video game or gaming sector is one of the most closely followed when it comes to new technological advances, and AI is no exception. Anto Binish Kaspar, founder and CEO of the AI startup Roanuz Softwares, explains that: « Video games are infinitely
procedural, they generate environments and
situations on the fly and allow players to perform any
action in a virtual world as they could in reality. To
go even further, video games respond to the emotional and
psychological state of their players, adapt and react to human behavior and
evolve over time. Every game containing AI technology has strict
laws and rules ».
Since the creation of artificial intelligence technology in the 1950s, AI has been used in the gaming sector to generate reactive, adaptive or intelligent behaviors, mainly in non-player characters (NPCs) resembling human intelligence. « A game that uses AI Tech is 50% psychological and 50% AI », notes Anto Binish Kaspar. Games built on artificial intelligence are therefore entirely constructed around how humans react to each situation and how they move.
From origins to future advances
If we look back, the great video game classics already featured artificial intelligence technology, whether PAC
Man, Mario, or even Don Crawler Dead Cells. However, in a broader sense, the pace
of integrating AI technology into games today is not at the
same level depending on the types of games; this integration is in its early stages, and many tests are underway to improve the user experience.
We are heading toward a mosaic of actions controlled by
AI. Over the next 10 years, AI will invade our daily lives well beyond games, from transportation to warfare to schools, and this across every corner of the planet. For example, according to a recent study, AI technology must be deployed to turn homes into smart residences controlled in most countries, such as the United States, Japan and many more.
Few people are truly aware of the slow but steady integration of AI into our daily lives, ranging from smartphone cameras to assistants such as Siri, Alexa… If we believe statistics and expert opinions, the AI technology sector aims to transform the world within the next ten years. However, the video game sector is expected to be the most disrupted in the next five years, because AI will create opportunities for job creation and new businesses.
Career opportunities in AI

As a result, many students today choose to study AI because it is a viable career option. Demand for AI professionals will increase, and to meet it, institutions are preparing students by integrating AI technology into their courses so they can meet future demand. AI professionals will thus easily be able to adapt to any new type of technology in the near future.
In practice, the emerging concept of AI has recently been explored in games such as Creatures, Black & White and Nintendogs. The virtual pets in these games can learn from the actions taken by the player, and their behavior changes accordingly. Although these choices are made within a limited pool, the technology is still in a gray area due to a lack of awareness and knowledge, and it should be more advanced within the next five years.
The gaming sector has therefore not yet been fully controlled by artificial intelligence, but it is a major project aimed at fully adopting the technology in the very near future.
